Amethyst decorated a very beautiful altar before leading out in our Litha Ritual tonight. This centerpiece soon became covered with many more sparkling items.

Eleven or twelve of us gathered to celebrate Litha (aka Summer Solstice).

{We're pretty certain that Faeries enjoyed our gathering as as there was much merry making and frivolity to mark this upcoming longest day/shortest night of the year (June 21st).

For our next (monthly) gathering please check back as we will be posting a full year's worth of circle dates and their themes/what to expect later this week.

Drumming Circle Tonight: A Recap [Posted by SunTiger]

Since we were blessed to have a dry evening to start our drum and chant ceremony tonight, Lydia led the group outside to the brand new chalice labyrinth (that members of the Unitarian Universalist church designed and installed). We all walked it at our individually designated pace and some of us shared powerful experiences gained from it with the group. After that we held our drum and chant circle. It was a very healing night and much of the focus surrounded the BP oil spill/healing Mother Earth!

One topic mentioned outside of ceremony was that some participants might not know that the UU church pays for onsite childcare services. If you are a parent wanting to participate in our Earth Based Spirituality (EBS) gatherings, and you need childcare services, simply make your request at least one week in advance to our Coordinator, Lydia at merrydancer@comcast.net. The church will then provide a sitter onsite for the duration of that ritual or gathering.

Thanks to a dream SunTiger had last night, we will be using noise makers (drums, rattles) to start the Pallomancy circle.
If you have a drum or rattle (tribal noise maker) please feel encouraged to bring it for starting the circle. All information (what to expect) is written in the two previous posts (below)

Rules for the Pallomancy Circle (Feb 27th)

By coming to the Pallomancy Circle EVERY PARTICIPANT AGREES TO:

* Mentally prepare. Come to the circle with love in your heart and an open mind. Burning Sage will be provided on site for those who would like to be purified by smoke.

* Take personal responsibility to be honoring and respectful of all others in the circle at all times. THIS IS A TRIBAL EFFORT. All participants will recognize their value as members of a tribe of spiritual beings and work for the advantage of that tribe as a unit.

* This circle is for group spiritual advancement. Consider the collective experience our highest priority. We will explore topics that the THE TRIBE DETERMINES it needs to explore (such as how to prepare for the future). The objective for this circle is NOT for individual forecasts.

* If any participant feels uncomfortable with any content discussed during circle, s/he is free to not participate without fear of judgment or penalty. At no point shall an individual feel at liberty to verbally criticize or be a distraction from the group effort. Individuals who begin to feel uncomfortable, at any time, may freely leave the circle on without fear of criticism.

* As spiritual beings, we have the right to exercise our free will. As a spiritual tribe, we have the right to explore spiritual truths together, being fully untethered by any judgmental or limited thinking.

* Pallomancy circles are very safe. All participants agree to help maintain that loving, nurturing and spiritual environment for the greatest advancement and spiritual learning for all involved.

Lady Lydia will be Head Priestess for this Lammas Public Ritual on Saturday, August 1, 2009. The ritual will begin at 7p.m. (as usual) but come :30 minutes early for learning new songs during "ingathering." We'll be celebrating outdoors. All are invited to contribute to the afterfeast and a suggestion is made to bring cakes shaped like stars and moons.

Come celebrate the height of the summer heat where the sun's strength supports our efforts to grow and begin harvesting the fruits of our spiritual and mundane labors. As always we celebrate the cycle of death and rebirth with a ceremony for raising energies to help us let go and open up to the new. As one lets go, one makes room for new insight, emotion, prosperity and peace. Bring simple cake or cookie shaped as stars and moons to represent the first
harvest of grains. Bring straw to shape into male or female figures to represent emotional or
psychic issues you wish to let go of in the sacred fire of renewal. And bring your blessed self to just be in the heat of the high summer as we rarely experience it here in the NW.

FOLLOW UP: Midsummer Ritual

I [SunTiger] felt so loved and supported/nurtured by all who attended last night's Summer Solstice Ritual (amidst the grief of Doug's dad passing on the night prior). Thank you for all the loving words and support in action intended for Doug and his family! You are all so awesome!

The costumes worn to this Sabbat were truly fun and entertaining if not utterly beautiful. I felt truly blessed to be the evening's organizer -- with so many wonderful people proving so willing to step in for ensuring the program's success. It was especially uplifting to see and hear laughter while we danced the spiral. Thank you all for honoring the circle - for creating sacred space as spiritual beings and for helping to raise such joyous, fun and healing energy.

Having so many visitors on this ritual night felt like such a soothing ointment. Hail and welcome to all who came and to anyone who wants to attend in the future. Merry meet and merry part (definitely, may we meet merrily again and again).

Posted by SunTiger: I'm making a unicorn mask for the ritual on Saturday, June 20th [7-9 p.m.] (Please attendees, if you do not have a costume just make a mask out of paper to wear.)

Lydia has been asked to lead the spiral circle/dance again this year (like she did last Summer). I'll be bringing the fire pit. Hopefully it will NOT rain. We will be writing our cares on a piece of paper [burdens, bad habits, etc.] to throw such into the flames/sending all that we'd like to overcome away.

If anyone has flower bulbs to share . . . please bring them. I have a few crocus bulbs to bring but probably not enough for everyone. We will be blessing the bulbs, filling them with our personal desires to take home and plant in a pot or in the yard . . . so when the flower blooms this coming spring it will symbolize how that reality (of our goals/aspirations expressed during ritual) will be fully manifested.

The Earth-Based Spirituality Group (aka "Salty Pagan" group) that meets monthly in Des Moines invites the public to come "join" us for a night of shamanic communication with elements of Earth.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Full Earth-based spirituality ritual. We will cast the circle, learn a shamanic method for communicating with plants, soil, etc., and create a stone vortex to raise energy for healing the Earth/more.

WHAT TO BRING:

Bring a rock or stone that's at least as large as your hand (weighing approximately 1-2 pounds). [Just as when collecting any spiritual item or tool, please ask the stone for permission before you collect it. The stone needs to express it's willingness to participate in the communal vortex we will be making; collectively. Leave a thank offering for Earth by giving the nearby soil coffee grounds, water or compost material].
Bring a snack to share in the after-feast.

Casting The Circle Sat., May 9, 7-9 p.m.

In regards to THIS SATURDAY NIGHT's ritual . . . Any time I am leading out for ritual PLEASE HONOR THE CIRCLE AS SACRED SPACE AND PLEASE DO NOT ENTER OR LEAVE IT DURING CEREMONY. If you are late, please follow ritual from OUTSIDE the circle. Advise children who are not participating, that they too must NOT cross the circle boundary.

IMPORTANCE OF CASTING A CIRCLE: GUARDING IT AS HOLY GROUND {I will create a hand-out so whomever calls the four quarters during this Full Moon ritual so they will be able to reiterate the concepts behind this truth}. The witch, shaman or root-worker who holds the sword/besom/wand for casting the circle takes a lot of responsibility for the safety and sanctity of the circle. If you are participating and MUST leave the circle for an emergency . . . approach that Pagan and ask that a doorway be cut for you to exit.

USE THE BATHROOM BEFORE CIRCLE BEGINS.

Unlike many religions that require buildings be made of brick, wood or stone, we Pagans create holy ground wherever we cast our circle: indoors or outdoors. A circle is a deeply spiritual and sacred space. A ceremonial circle allows positive energy to come in and the casting sends negativity out. THIS PURE AND HOLY SITUATION IS WHY THE CIRCLE MUST NOT BE BROKEN WHILE WE DO OUR WORK. WE ARE CHANNELING SPIRIT ENERGY IN THE PURE AND CLEAN CIRCLE ENVIRONMENT WHICH WE, OUR ANCESTORS, AND HELPFUL/HEALING ENERGIES HAVE DESIGNATED AS "HOLY GROUND."

As a group of Pagans -- following any of a number of paths (Shaman, Wiccan, etc) the circle can be thought about as though it were a purified petri dish (or think of us as the potato salad at the picnic). Just as the petri dish needs to remain covered to keep contaminates out - so our circle needs to remain CLOSED during ceremony to maintain the sanctity of the energy we raised.

It is very important, as a community, to counsel one another about the sanctity of circle. Sanctity does NOT mean "boring." It means "RESPECT." The energy work we do is very powerful. Running in and out of circle breaks the energetic vortex and it can allow negative energy and even fowl-spirits inside (contaminates, if you will) that have the potential to spoil any spell or ritual work.

Perhaps I [SunTiger] will bring a rope or skein-of-yarn to designate the edge of the circle this Saturday Night so folks have a visual cue: NOT to cross it during ceremony. Perhaps our circle caster will lay that yarn as s/he casts the circle (if this is deemed most helpful).

This blurry photo does NOT do justice to this purple-faerie's costume. Her make-up was impeccable. Her outfit hand-sewn. BEAUTIFUL vendor!
I laughed so hard at this knight who made his presence known by sneaking up behind me to take a bite out of my Faerie wings before declaring: "Mmmmmm delicious." His partner had such a supportive and calming way about her.
I have to say the above pictured {dark faerie} got me to laughing so hard. I met her in the upstairs hall where she screetched at me. I was so taken back at first, I forgot to give her my famous faerie "twitter-tongue" in reply.
Have you ever seen a more festive vendor? Truly should be in movies, cute as she is.
No faerie costume is complete without a lot of attitude and charm.

I felt very honored to meet such welcoming and beautiful faerie-vendors.
Woodland folk also showed up for participating in the event.
The perfectly posed vendor on the right is honestly NOT a mannequin. She's a living, breathing -doll (daughter to the beautiful faerie pictured, left).
These herb faeries were so fun to talk to. I learned about Nigerian Dwarf Goats (among other fascinating herb and Earth-friendly subjects) from chatting with the two of them.
While this vendor agreed to allow me to take his photo -- he seemed to glare. (Lesson: not all Faeries are happy to work with mere humans).
What's a festival without a wizard-magician???

Here I am (yours truly) SunTiger. A little boy at the festival said I looked like the "devil's-faery." I didn't realize I looked so dark -- was going for bright and fun -- but that just goes to prove: "Magick is in the eyes of the beholder."

There were so many more costumes and fascinating people I met at the Faerie Festival who are not featured in these photos. Thank you, Angela (owner of Crescent Moon Gifts) for putting this festive event together. See everybody again next year [I'll be developing a more elaborate costume by then].

Thank you, Amethyst, for a very laid back and pleasant craft night at the Salty Pagan Gathering on Feb. 14th. Doug and I had fun creating our Brighid crosses and they now hang in the dining room. (Makes me wonder where everyone else hung theirs . . . above the chimney perhaps?).

I carpooled to hear Permaculture Activist Starhawk’s speech, last night, (during this 17th Annual Women of Wisdom Conference in Seattle) with another Salty Pagan member.

Something that made me feel sad, and I wondered if I should even mention it here, is how Starhawk now looks as though she has significant health-burdens. She appeared very worn and tired and while I know she's a little older than me -- I felt very much aware, because of her appearance, that her voice will someday fade into silence. Certainly we all die, but seeing her not looking so vibrant is a most grievous admission.

She's such a powerful woman, I wonder what Pagan, exactly, will pick up the torch to enlighten the masses in her absence one day; as she has done for the world's benefit for so many years. {Sending Reiki healing and richest blessings her way, hoping for rapidly improved health -- perhaps Starhawk will be among the many who lead us into what some predict will be a world full of peace and harmony post Dec. 21, 2012}.

Few people are as magnetic speakers as her. Fewer still are willing to get arrested, repeatedly facing police violence in a world that values free speech “on the books” but in action (over these past few decades) video shows protesters with legitimate causes have been dishonored and beaten; even while they were bringing a valuable message to an otherwise lethargic world.

All the while her message proved strong and inspiring, very similiar to what's already written in her most recent book, The Earth Path.

So it looks like for right now, the Holly King is not wanting to let Go!
The Oak King may have to wait a few more days for the Holly King to gracefully let go of his time by the Goddess’s side until the next Summer Solstice.
The Great Mother Goddess of course is enjoying the drama as they fight over the place at her side.
So make a great noise the next few nights to scare away the Holly King’s elves mischievous efforts at winter making.
Make a great noise and ring bells to strengthen the Oak King’s resolve to come forth in the face of the GREAT Cold.
Put out a loaf of bread by the hearth overnight to bring good luck for the coming spring as the Great Wheel of Life turns.
Put stars in the windows to honor the return of the SUN.
And watch out! The winter pixies are giggling by your front doors waiting for you!
May your winter time help you slow down to feel the warmth of your heart(h).

Due to severe weather conditions (predicted 75 mph winds, heavy snow, and temperatures dropping) The Salty Pagan group will NOT be gathering tonight, Saturday, December 20, for the scheduled Yule celebration.

We apologize to any from the far North who migrated here to Washington, who we know would have come regardless (we know the cold Northern winds are what made the Vikings so very fearless, like Odin, after all).

The 17th annual Women of Wisdom (WOW) Conference in Seattle runs February 12-16 in 2009. For only $20.00 you can go hear Pagan Social Activist and Author Starhawk speak at the Seattle Unity Church on Thurs., Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. While most WOW events are exclusive to women, and the title of this presentation is "Women Take Action: Using the Insights of Feminism to Change the World" this particular presentation is open to men.

Then, on Fri., Feb. 13, at North Seattle Community College, Starhawk presents "Let It Begin Now: Another World Is Possible." This all-day event is exclusive to women and costs $95.00. It runs from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Overall, Sat., Oct. 18, will be a very busy night for Pagans around Puget Sound. While many will be dressing up to enter costume contests at Witches Balls located in both Seattle and Tacoma -- Salty Pagans will be offering a low key night of fun in a location situated directly inbetween those two big cities.
